RPG Blast Mitigation

The Stable Air™ panel's engineered air-void matrix (32–34% air content) acts as a distributed energy absorption system. Upon detonation of an RPG-7 warhead, the blast overpressure wave encounters millions of discrete air cells that collapse sequentially, converting destructive kinetic energy into thermal energy through adiabatic compression of trapped air.

This void-collapse mechanism prevents the formation of a coherent shockwave capable of breaching the backing concrete wall. Secondary fragmentation — the leading cause of personnel casualties behind concrete barriers — is eliminated entirely.

The panel surface sustains localized cratering (repairable with field-applied patching compound) while the structural concrete behind remains at full load-bearing capacity.

AK-47 Projectile Arrest

7.62×39mm FMJ rounds entering the Stable Air™ panel encounter a non-Newtonian deceleration profile. The air-void matrix disrupts the projectile's rotational stability within the first 1–2 inches, causing tumble and rapid energy dissipation through lateral void collapse.

Complete projectile arrest occurs at 2–3 inches of penetration depth. The captured round is immobilized within collapsed matrix material, eliminating both ricochet hazard and backface spall — two critical failure modes of standard concrete under ballistic impact.

Validated by Concrete Technologies Inc field testing — see Stable Air™ Ballistic Test Report.

.50 Cal BMG Arrest

M2 Browning .50 caliber AP round: 45g projectile at ~900 m/s, ~18,000 ft-lbs muzzle energy. Penetrates standard 6″ 3,500 psi concrete at combat ranges.

Stable Air™ 6″+: kinetic energy fully dissipated within panel via micro-aggregate crushing. The air-void matrix absorbs the massive kinetic energy through progressive void collapse and aggregate fracture, arresting the round within 3–4 inches of penetration depth.

The panel's distributed energy absorption prevents the formation of a through-penetration channel, unlike conventional concrete which shatters in a cone pattern around the impact point.

IED Blast Mitigation

10–15 lb ANFO equivalent IED at 15ft standoff: peak overpressure ~50 psi at wall face. Standard 6″ 3,500 psi concrete: catastrophic structural failure at this overpressure.

Stable Air™ 6″+: blast wave energy converted to heat and micro-fracture within panel matrix — no collapse, no overpressure transmission. The distributed air-void system acts as a volumetric shock absorber, preventing the coherent shockwave from reaching the backing wall.

Unlike projectile threats, IED blasts engage the entire panel face simultaneously, making the air-void distribution uniformity critical for consistent protection across the wall surface.

Current Configuration: 6″

At 6″ thickness: Blast energy from RPG-7 warhead is fully absorbed within panel depth. Concrete backing sustains zero damage. All projectile types arrested with margin.
